The computer is a useful tool for me. When I see these enlarged images in the
construction process I can take detail work to a level that could not be achieved
without it. The top f-hole photograph with nicks is computer drawn upon
symmetrically carved holes. Using design laws of negative and positive space for all
shape aspects results in a shape that brings movement to the form and negates
the static look that comes from round eyes cut with a drill. The lower photograph
shows the change in form from edges being painted black. It is still in the varnishing
stage previous to final f-hole carving. The camera has distorted its shape
somewhat. Actually, every violin image on this website is distorted.
Nothing beats the eye of reality.
